Little Big Man (Western Expansion)

Little Big Man (Western Expansion)

Jack Crabb is the only white survivor of the Battle of Little Big Horn and the centenarian shares his story in this picaresque fable of the Old West.

The story is presented as dying centenarian Jack Crabb recalls several facets of his long and unusual life, including being a gunslinger, homesteader, snake-oil salesman, scout for General George Custer, witness and survivor of the Battle of the Little Bighorn, and sidekick to Wild Bill Hickok.

Jack Crabb tells his life experience to a reporter when he was young age of 10, he ia adopted into the Cheyenne tribe and learn the new culture because he was a white guy, he might live with Indian man.

One day the Indian men fight with white guys because the white guys want to expend the country, they kill women and children Indian and the white guy arrest Jack to his country and Mrs Pendrake take care him. By teach him everything about social, dress, especially moral

Then Jack face that Mrs Pendrake makes violates a religious precept. So he disappointed. After Jack go back to Indian culture and get the name is a Little Big Man. He has four wives Indian and child but finally his family dies because the white guys too.

My opinion

This movie show me many things about of the way of life Indians . I know what the house of Indians call(tee pee). I think Old Lodge Skin is a brave a man. he know what will happen and he is very kind man. He love Jack as his son eventhough Jack is not. This movie shows me about love between two people that are different race, language, or the way of life but they can live together with love.

In the movie you can see:
  • gunslinger

  • homesteader

  • snake-oil salesman

  • An Army scout

  • Native American cultures

  • White people

And Jack's story is a fantastic one: captured by Indians as a boy, reared as an Indian, shuttling back and forth between the white and Indian worlds. In the process, he befriends everyone from Wild Bill Hickok to George Armstrong Custer and is a gunslinger, a snake-oil salesman, and an Army scout.

Despite its comedic approach, it contains many dramatic moments and a clear social commentary about prejudice and injustice.

My research about historical basis
An historical Little Big Man bears no resemblance to the Hoffman character. The historical Little Big Man is known for his involvement with the capture and possible assassination of Crazy Horse.

Saving Private Ryan(WWII)

Saving Private Ryan

June 6, 1944, D-DAY was the first day in the beginning of the end of Nazi Europe which will be lived in infamy for all time. “The invasion of Normandy"

As the film opens, we see the D-Day invasion in all its horrific brutality. We see men blasted away by rounds and rounds of ammunition, we see men with bloody stumps carrying lost limbs, and we even see one man with his intestines spewed all over the ground. Yes, it's gross, but it's also horribly realistic. This actually happened.

Hundreds died on Omaha beach that June day in 1944; Canadians, British, and Americans. (It should be noted that Canadians were the ONLY ones to complete ALL of their mission objectives and hold every possession entrusted to them.)

Many people did live, however. One man, Captain Miller (Tom Hanks), is given the assignment of tracking down a kid from Iowa, Private. James Ryan (Matt Damon). Ryan's three other brothers were all killed in action and he now has a ticket home.
Captain Miller leads a group of eight men to find Ryan. However, even before they find Ryan, the group looses two men means that 25% heavy losses. Once they manage to find Ryan, they find out that he won't leave his post - guarding one of only two bridges not yet destroyed.

Miller and his gang decide to stay and help, no matter what the cost. The only important thing is protecting Ryan, and making sure he gets home...

The movie shows a more spiritual side of the Americans. A lot of the soldiers believed in God and their faith gave them courage and strength more than once on the battlefield. Another thing that struck me was the friendship that developed between members of the same unit. Most of these men were strangers to each other and were brought in from different parts of the country.

“They can sacristies themselves to protect their country and friends.”

Reap the Wild Wind(nation building)

Reap the Wild Wind

As the film opens Loxi Claiborne is running a salvage business started by her deceased father.

A hurricane is just passing through the Key West area, leaving behind at least one wreck on the nearby shoals. "The Jubilee" founders and Loxi and other salvagers race to claim the cargo. Not arriving first, Loxi and her crew rescue the captain, Jack Stuart, but do not share in the salvage rights. It appears that the first salvager on the scene, King Cutler, may have actually planned the wreck.
Nursing Jack back to health, Loxi falls in love with him. When she visits Charleston with her cousin Drusilla, Loxi schemes to win a plum captain's position for Jack by seducing Steve Tolliver, who is running the sailing ship line Jack works for. Steve falls for Loxi, and returns with her to Key West.

Drusilla returns home to Havana when Loxi and Steve return to Key West. Steve has come to rid the Keys of pirates like Cutler (and be near Loxi). Cutler in turn arranges to have Steve shanghaied by the crew of a whaler. Loxi hears of the plot and gets Jack to help her save Steve. Later they discover that Steve has Jack's appointment to the steamship "The Southern Cross" with him. Angry over a seemingly underhanded act, Jack meets with Cutler before sailing to Havana to take command of his new ship.

Rumors circulate and prices of the cargo of the "Southern Cross" go up and down wildly, leaving Steve to suspect a wreck is planned. He commandeers the "Claiborne" with Loxi on board and heads to Havana to stop Jack. Loxi disables her ship and they sit becalmed in a fog bank as the "Southern Cross" piles into a reef and sinks. Unknown to Jack, Drusilla had stowed away to be with her lover, King's brother Dan Cutler, and she is drowned.

Jack is put on trial for wrecking his ship and the testimony reveals a woman may have been on board, though none was rescued. To determine if a woman is in the wreck, Steve agrees to dive to the wreck with Jack. While down in the wreck Jack and Steve discover proof that Drusilla was on board and has been drowned. They are attacked by a giant squid. Jack saves Steve's life, and is lost when the "Southern Cross" slips off the underwater shelf into deep water.

Loxi seems to get over the loss of her intended husband pretty quickly and winds up in Charleston with Steve.

My opinion

You can see that in this movie, released shortly after the start of World War II was a swashbuckling adventure set in the 1840's along the Florida coast, they will be used the ship to transportation. It don’t have a good law and police who can help and control on the open sea.
You can saw that both men cast aside their differences to seek justice on the open sea, where an underwater encounter with a giant octopus threatens to bury them both in a watery grave.

· A brand-new steamship
· Salvager

It is a very old movie created in the year 1942.I have some problem with my DVD. Moreover, it don’t have English subtitle. It have only Chinese subtitle so it really hard for me to understand the movie.

I try to see and make understanding but I can not understand over all movie. So, I will be researched some information increasing from internet.

Memphis Belle

Memphis Belle

“In the summer of 1943 a fierce battle raged in the skies on Europe.

Everyday hundred of young airmen faced death as they flew bombing raids deep into enemy territory.

Fewer & fewer were coming back”

The movie

England 16 May, 1943; Witness the final mission of the Memphis Belle and her crew as it follows the crew of a B-17 bomber on its final and most dangerous mission over Germany, during World War II.

This movie started from the scene of England on 16 May 1943. Young volunteer army was waiting for joining the war with the fear of death. They had a party before the D-day for getting rid of fear. On D-day, Memphis belle flied to German military place to drop bomb rain. They struggled with attack from German military and some colleagues were fallen down. Even though they were attacked by German, they did their job properly.
"During the WW ll, 200 thousand air crews was died in western Europe". Yes, it was a big pity to all. After WW ll, the power of the world moved to US and Soviet Union and started cold period. Interesting thing after WW ll, US was worried about spread of the communism in German and Europe, so US showed the Marshal Plan for ruined German. It made German more democratic country than before. Most of countries did not agree with this generous plan but US kept two things in mind; Spread of Communism and World peace.
This movie was also nice one for thinking about WW ll and the world.
You can saw that:

The movie exists as a fitting tribute to the men who fought and often died in the air over hostile territory. And yet, this exciting movie is almost certain to grab and hold your attention, offering an honorable reminder of the bravery and integrity that were crucial ingredients of any bomber's crew.

"The Gettyburg civil war was one of the most important event which ever happened in the history of America and brouht a lot of turning point to the American society. The Gettyburg was the battle between the Northern union army which commanded by Robert E Lee with the Sounthern confederate army."
The main caused of the war, the living style of the Americans people during that time and also the social class. There was a large gap of the society during that period of time which there were a lot of slavery in the South part of America. These slavery surfing their master to look after the land and once they become the slave of their master, the next generation of them still have to serve the same master once their parents were died.

On the other side, The Northern part of the America, during that time the President Abraham, Lincoln have been elected to serve the country and have anouced to quit the slavery system. The Northern part is seeking for modernization, freedom and independence which if there were still slavery exist in the Sounthern part, there was difficult to develop the whole country to the better day.Bacause of this, the war was started as the Sounth part still want to keep their slave and have decided to seperate the nation out from the Northern part.

The main character of this movie is Robert Edward Lee, who commanded the army of the Northern side. Lee is the one who searching for the freedom and indepency, therefore, he is strongly opposed the slavery system. He is also encouraging the race segmentation. He views everybody as a human being no racism segmentation such as the Americal Blacks people. He is the one who truly understand the feeling of the slave which were unhappy and demanded freedom.

As the result of the war, Lee defeated the sounthern part and so for the slavery have more freedom which are able to study and have to right to choose to serve the master by their owned though.

My opinion

I think that this war happened from the conflict between the Northern part and the Southern part which have different attitude. They have different lifestyle so, they don’t understand the needs of each other.

I agree with Lee because having slave is social unfairness. They should have a freedom or get more salary than these.
